The LIVE-IN Caregiver Program

The live-in caregiver program is a great way (in my opinion) to fill a need for Canadians (childcare) while giving an opportunity for foreign workers to start a life in our great country. It is very difficult to find domestic live-in caregivers due to the nature of the job (living in someone else’s home and being paid minimum wage), but for many foreign workers minimum wage is 2 or 3 times their salary in their native country. It is very important to first try to locate a domestic worker for these positions, however, particularly given the lead time it takes (ie. beginning your search 6-8 months in advance), it’s difficult to find someone ready to take on a position so far in advance and as such, the live-in caregiver program is a great option for many families. This program enables families to hire foreign workers following a strict set of guidelines set out by the Federal government. It seems like a win-win for families and caregivers alike.

  1. Being a caregiver is not easy. Along with the sparse opportunity to find work, the actual job is difficult as well. I'm just glad that there are programs like that, which helps give caregivers a fighting chance in finding a stable and safer workplace. Anyway, that was extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing that! All the best to you!

The 411 on Nanny&Me

I am SO excited to have my son, Logan, provided with the one-on-one care of a nanny in our home. The process of recruiting and keeping a nanny seems intimidating at times and there are so many things to think about and consider. The goal of my blog is to support, encourage and empower parents who are considering and pursuing the path of a nanny.

Nanny&Me provides free resources and information that will support you in finding, selecting, and keeping a great nanny. Nanny&Me will also share our family's journey on the road to building a strong and positive relationship with our nanny.
